Baba and Vijayadasami!

Saibaba and Vijayadasami kindles lofty memories to Sai devotees. Yes, it was on Vijayadasami day during the year 1918, Baba left his mortal coil at around 2-30 PM after asking some of his close devotees to go and have their lunch. They were reluctant but left with heavy heart. Still some devotees sat on the steps. It was the fortunate "Laxmi Bai" to receive the last blessings from Sai in the form of nine silver coins. Baba then said, Take Me to Dakdi wada, there I will become well! saying these few words he laid his head on the shoulder of a devotee and left his mortal coil. The devotee cried as "Baba". It seemed that Baba said "Ha" but it was evident that Baba left safely. Nana Nimonkar poured water on Baba's mouth but it came out. The news spread too quickly. Those devotees who left for their meals at the behest of Baba came running leaving their meals. People expressed the grief in many ways. Many cried pitiably. Many rolled on the ground. Many swooned. Then the talk about interring Baba's body was held. Some devotees remembered Baba's last words and said, they preferred interring Baba's body in Buti's Takadi Wada as per Baba's last wish. Some said, it should be interred on the open ground. The arguement went on for many hours. Ultimately, the suggestion to inter Baba's mortal coil in Buti Wada gained two third support and Baba's remains were interred ceremoniously after taking procession in Buti Wada. Thus Buti Wada became the Samadhi Mandir of Saibaba. Lakhs and Lakhs of people throng to Shirdi to visit the Samadhi and take Dharsan of the Marble idol of Saibaba which looks like Real. Bagat Mahlsapathy and Baba!

Saibaba came to Shirdi alongwith a marriage party. The marriage party returned but Saibaba choose to stay in Shirdi. It was Bakat Mahlsapathy who welcomed Saibaba first in Shirdi with the words "Ya Sai". This name struck him permanantly. Also Mahlsapathy became his devotee initially and Shama and others joined thereafter. Mahlsapathy was a poor man from 'goldsmith' caste. He had three daughters. He used to sleep in the Masjid alongwith Tatya Patil and Saibaba. Once Baba directed Mahlsapathy to go and sleep in his house. But Mahlsapathy did not heed Baba. Saibaba forced him again and he had to relent. Saibaba told him that 'daughters are like tamarind fruit whereas a son is a mango fruit'. Mahlsapathy had a son subsequent to the command of Baba. Mahlsapathy being poor was unable to make both ends meet. But Baba never allowed him to earn. However Baba looked after his welfare spiritually. Once a Sait named Hansraj desired to give Mahlsapathy a huge sum. But Baba had not allowed him to accept the amount. Baba had in his mind the spiritual upliftment of His Bagat rather than the material welfare. Mahlsapathy too evinced much interest in spiritual path shown by Baba and he devoloped much detachment towards material life and world. Thus Saibaba ensured his spiritual progress. Sairam, Saisaran.

Remember God before eating!

Sometimes, Saibaba used to joke with his devotees. It so happened that one devotee was sitting near Baba. Another devotee noticed some grains in the fold of the shirt. This has become a topic of fun on that day. The devotee who had no inkling as to how those grains have found place in his shirt fold. Finding him searching for the reason, Saibaba said, "What is there to know? I know the habit of the person. He used to eat grains alone. Today being Shandy day in Shirdi, he went to Shandy and hence he was eating the grains. The devotee got sad and said, "Baba! i have not gone to the Shandy to day. In fact, i have never visited the Shandy. I do not partake any thing without offering to anybody. Why you are charging me saying, 'this fellow used to eat without offering anything to anybody?. Baba then said, "yes, i know you used to share the eatables with others". But if there is nobody nearby, "Do you remember Me before eating". Thus the devotee was given a beautiful lesson that one should always remember God before eating. What a nice lesson? Sairam, Saisaran.

Shirdi Baba-Real facts regarding his birth.

Many devotees of Shirdi Sai Baba are not aware of Baba's birth and childhood days. On 28 September 1990, Sri Sathya Sai Baba has revealed the following astonishing facts about Saibaba: Saibaba was born on 28 Sep' 1835 as a result of blessings and boon granted to his mother by Lord Shiva himself. Manifesting in front of the humble cottage in the guise of a old man, Lord has tested "Devagiri amma", the mother would be of "Sai". It seems that in the Nizam State, there was a village "Pathri" where a dovout couple lived. They were issueless. Hence they were spending their time in remembering God and led their life from the meagre income from a boat. Gangabava, the would be father of Sai, used to ply the boat to transport people across the river. Thus he earned a little money and spent it on running his family. Devagiriamma, the devout wife of Gangabhava was sincerely serving her husband's need and took care of him.

One day there was a storm and hence Gangabhava decided to spend the night in his boat lest it would be swept away in the flood. Hence he took his food and asked Devagiriamma to take care and left the house. She also took her food and started to rest on her bed. Suddenly there was a knock on the door. Devagiriamma opened the door thinking that her husband might have returned. To her surprise, there was a old man who pleaded with her to provide him a resting place for the night. Devagiriamma showed him a place in the outer verandha and bolted the doors inside and started resting. Again, there was a knock in the door. She opened the door and found that the old man was asking for food to appease his hunger. She hurried to the kitchen and found some rice and curd. She mixed it and gave it to the old man. Again she retreaded inside and lay on her bed. The third time, there was a knock. This time, the old man has requested her, "My feet are aching, Can you press it for some time?. Unable to face such request, she went to her prayer room and started pleading with Mother Parvati, to rescue her from such a piquant situation. Suddenly she remembered that there may be some maid in the nearby houses, who may respond to offer such service for money. She went to places and unfortunately, none was available. After some time, there was a tap on the door. One servant maid, who told her that 'she was away on some work' it seems that somebody from the house needs her service". Getting relief for the timely help she asked the maid to press the feet of the old man and returned to her room. Surprisingly there was one more knock on the door. Since there was a lady outside, Devagiriamma opened the door. To her utter surprise, there stood Siva and Parvati in their Divine form and blessed her for her sincere devotion. Mother Parvati blessed Devagiriamma, that a son would be born. Again there was one more boon. A daughter would be born and by offering her in marriage, they would get merit. Finally, Lord Shiva spoke and told Devagiriamma, that He himself would take birth as a third son to her. Blessing her thus, they vanished mysteriously.

The husband returned in the morning and hearing the narration from his wife, he ridiculed her. He said, it is your own imagination. How could Lord Shiva and Parvati come to their humble dwelling. Your mind is in confusion. He was not willing to believe her version though she confirmed again and again, the events on the previous night. To prove the blessings, Devagiriamma conceived and delivered a son. After some time, she again become pregnant and this time a daughter was born. Finding the truth about the blessings, Gangabhava became remorse for not believing his innocent wife when she told him the events. He said, "You are really fortunate that the Lord and Parvati came to you and blessed you thrice. I am not so fortunate. Now my only concern is to do penance and to get the coveted Dharsan of the Lord. He was impatient to leave the house early. As blessed by Shiva, Devagiriamma conceived for the third time and nine months have passed. Unable to wait any longer, the husband told Devagiriamma, "I am leaving the house". Being a devout wife, she too followed him but on the way, labor pain has started. They rested below a huge tree and soon Devagiriamma delived the third child. But she made a sari bit torn from her as a bed and placed the child over it and spread green leaves over it. She started following her husband with great detachment. A Muslim Sufi, who was issueless, happened to come near the tree.Hence the Sufi took the baby and handed over to his wife. The muslim lady brought up the child with care. Soon her husband passed away. The boy was four at the time. But his activities have become a concern to the muslim lady. The boy would go to Hindu temple and say, I am Allah! Shiva is Allah!. People got angry and reported the matter to the muslim lady. The boy would visit the mosque and utter such words which would infuriate the muslim devotees. Finding that the boy is uncontrollable, she handed over the boy to One Guru "Venkusa", who accepted the boy in his custody. From the year 1839 to 1851, the boy was under the custody of the saint "Venkusa". As the Guru was very loving to the new boy "Sai", other disciples got jealous of the boy. Then Saibaba left his Guru and was wandering in the west. He came to Shirdi but after sometime left the place. Again he came back to Shirdi alongwith a marriage party of Chandpatil. From then onwards till his death he stayed there continuously (From 1853 to 1918). Sairam, Saisaran.

Mega, a sincre and true devotee!

Mega is one great devotee of Saibaba. He was illeterate but humble. Initially, he was not willing to go to Shirdi, thinking that Baba is a Muslim and he was not inclined to worship a Muslim. He was forced to go to Shirdi with an introduction letter. He requested his master not to send him to Shirdi. Initially when he reached Shirdi and went to Dwarakamai, Baba hurled abuses on him saying, "You are a high caste Brahmin, How you can bow before a Muslim? saying thus Baba has not allowed him to come near. But somehow impressed with Baba's Omnipotence in knowing his innermost thoughts, Mega was sitting in a corner watching the people who worship Baba. Still he was not much convinced. Hence he returned to his native and from there he went to Trayambakeswar and stayed there for one and half years. Subsequently, he returned to Shirdi and on the intervention of Dada Kelkar, he too was admitted near Baba. Mega worshipped Baba in his own way. After worshiping other deities in Shirdi, he used to come to Dwarakamai and started messaging the feet of Sai. He used to pour water on the feet and drank the water poured on Baba's feet.

Saibaba blessed Mega in some mysterious manner. Once when Mega was sleeping in his room, in the early morning, he saw Baba inside the room. Baba showered rice grains on his head and said, "Draw Trisul". Saying this he vanished. Mega was unable to believe his own eyes. Hence when he went to Baba, he enquired whether he has to draw "Trisul". Baba told him, "My words are never hollow. When i told you earlier, why you are asking Me? Mega said, that his prsence inside a locked room seem like an illusion" Baba told him, i need no enterance to go over any place. I have no length or bredth. Doing the worship for many years, finally Mega passed away during the year 1912. Baba passed his hand on Mega's body and said, "This is my real devotee". Also Baba fed people in the memory of his great devotee Mega. Sairam, Saisaran.

The Blessed people of Shirdi!

Many people started visiting Baba in Dwaraka Mai for removal of their sufferings and for gaining wealth, progeny and other benefits. Saibaba treated all with love. He granted their heart's desire. But few devotees came to Baba seeking the real aim of life. They are "Bagat Mahlsapathy, Shri Kaparde, Nanasaheb Chandorkar and Dasganu Maharaj. Kakasaheb Dixit, Sriman Buti also are some notable devotees who constructed their own wada in Shirdi. In this regard Sriman Buti is blessed in such a way, that his wada now accommodates Baba's mortal remains. Lakhs and lakhs of devotees are visiting Shirdi, nowadays which has become a famous pilgrim centre in Maharashtra. Regular Artis and Bhajans, Puja etc are being conducted with frequent procession of Baba's Paduka and other memorials in a palank every Thursday with lot of fanfare. Such a remote hamlet, unknown to the outside world till Baba made His place of residence. The dust and grass, Baba treaded everyday for His Biksha are really very fortunate. The people of Shirdi are most fortunate for they were blessed with the opportunity to see Him, talk with him and receive the blessed Udhi from His own hand. Sairam. Saisaran.

How Damodar was blessed with children?

Damodar Savalram(Damu Anna) was a regular visitor to Shirdi from the year 1895. He had no issues though he was wealthy. He had two wives. One day Baba received a parcel of mango fruits booked in the name of Shama for Baba. Baba kept four mangoes in his kolomba and said this is for Damu Anna. After few hours, Damu Anna reached Shirdi and visited Dwarakamai for the Dharsan of Baba. Baba told him, "Damiya take these four fruits and give them to your youngest wife. This "Amra Leela" will grant children. As directed by Baba, Damu Anna gave those fruits to his youngest wife. In course of time, she delivered. Altogether four daughters and four sons were born to Damu Anna as predicted by Baba. Sairam, Saisaran.

How Mirikar was forewarned by Baba?

Saibaba's ways are very peculiar and none can gauge his words or warnings. Once Shri Mirikar came to the Masjid to take Dharsan of Baba before leaving for some official tour to Chitali. Baba gave him Dharsan and gave him permission. While doing so, he asked Mirikar, "Do you know lamba bhava? He is very cruel. But what harm it will do to the children of Dwarakamai and Baba made some signs with his hand and palm that resembles a snake. Baba asked Mirikar to take Shama alongwith him. But when Shama asked Mirikar whether he would accompany him, Mirikar said that it would be inconvenient to him. Shama went to Baba and told him, Mirikar's views. Baba said, O.K., we have to tell people good things, If they don't listen, what we can do. Things will happen as destained. After contemplating a while, Mirikar changed his mind and consented to take Shama with him to Chitali. Shama again went to Baba and obtained his permission to leave for Chitali. Then both of them proceeded to Chitali in a tonga. When they reached there, the officials have not yet turned up. Hence they were sitting in the Maruti temple, reading newspaper. Mirikar's upper cloth was near his waist and one snake was silently lying on one portion of the cloth. Some peon noticed the snake and started shouting as Snake! Then Mirikar moved away without causing disturbance. The snake was immediately killed by the peon and others. Thus Baba saved Mirikar from an impending danger which he foresaw and warned him ahead. This is the way of Saibaba. Sairam, Saisaran.

Sai Sath Charita parayan.

Shri Hemadpant(Govinda Ragunath Dabolkar) has explained in his book "Sai Sath charita", his incompetability to write a book on Saibaba. He laments that he is not able to understand the mind of his friend nor he is able to understand his own mind. How he can attempt to write about the 'inscrutable Sai". One must be a jnani to write about a jnani. But he is an ordinary house holder with medium capacity. However, he adds that "Baba's grance alone can make his attempt to succeed. Hence, he requested another devotee to intercede on his behalf to get the permission from "Sai". The request was made to Baba when Hemadpant was present. Baba atonce approved the plan. He said, "let him keep notes of the events. "I have to myself write the Satcharita through him. Let him be devoid of 'ego or ahamkar and consider himself as my instrument. Let him not try to emphasize his own views. Let him avoid all arguements and remain humble. Then I will enter him and get it written through him. Now we all know and read the beautiful Sat Charita which is being read in thousands of households as a "Parayana"(daily reading). It is published in many languages. Those who read it dutifully daily atleast one chapter will realize the aim of life.-Baba. Sairam, Saisaran.

How Baba cured Beemaji Patel of TB?

One Beemaji Patel from Junnar Taluk, Narayangao village was suffering due to various ailments and he developed Tuberculosis. There was no end to his sufferings. Desparately he was searching for Divine help. Fortunately, he was guided to Baba. Initially, Baba was not willing to interfere in the karma of Beemaji. But Beemaji cried out loudly and held Baba's feet. Baba softened and told him, "Do not cry! your sufferings will come to an end. By uttering these words, Beemaji found great relief. Actually he was vomitting blood every five minutes. But after Baba's assurance, he was relileved to a great extent. Baba asked him to stay in the house of Bheembai. Though it was not a hygenic place, yet Beemaji obeyed the instructions. During his stay there, he dreamt two horrible dreams. In one dream, his school teacher was thrashing him with a cane for not memorizing some poem. In the second dream, one huge stone was pressed against his chest up and down. He underwent great pain during the dream itself. By these two dreams, he was completely cured! As a mark of thanksgiving, Beemaji started observing, "Sai Satya Vrata Puja" instead of Satya Narayana Puja!. Sairam, Saisaran.

Haji Siddique Palke and Baba.

Shama(Madhava Rao Deshpande) was a humble school master, who was very close to Baba. People who want the blessings of Sai, some times could not get it. Hence they sought the intercession from Shama. Since Baba was very kind to Shama, his help was sought by some devotees. Haji Siddique Palke was an aged Muslim, who had sought nearness to Baba. He was not allowed to climb the steps of the Mosque instead he was asked to take Dharsan from the open area in front of the mosque. The Haji was greately perturbed by the neglect of Baba. He was staying there in Shirdi for many months with the hope of seeking an audience with Baba and to remain near Him. He thought of a way. He approached Shama and requested him to intervene on behalf of him. Shama said, "Baba's Dharbar is open". However, he will intercede and request Baba at an appropriate occasion. Once Shama asked Baba, "Baba! many people come here and climb the mosque and take your Dharsan. The Haji is waiting for several months, anxious to get your Dharsan. But you have not allowed him to climb the mosque. Baba told Shama, "Oh Shama! You are really ignorant. If the Fakir is not allowing some to come near, what i can do? :You go and ask him whether he will give Me Rs 40000/- in four instalments. Then Shama went to the Haji and enquired from him about Baba's question. The Haji humbly replied that he is prepared to give even 40 lakhs. Again Baba asked him through Shama, Baba is going to prepare the meat of a goat. What part of the goat, the Haji would like to receive? To this question, the Haji replied, He would be very glad to accept even a small bit of meat from Baba's colombo(vessel). After hearing about the replies, Baba threw the mud pots and colombo and came near the Haji and told him, "You are proud of your pilgrimage to Mecca but you do not know Me! After uttering these words, Baba sent the Haji, one basket full of fruits and allowed the Haji to come near Him. He gave the Haji money and dined with him. Thus the Haji was admitted into the Durbar of Sai. That is the way and love of Baba to the Haji.

Saibaba's assurances.

Saibaba's mood can never be predicted by anybody. At times he will be serene and exude all warmth and love. At times, without any provocation or reason, he used to abuse all and throw the mud pots etc. At those times, his eyes will be red and rotating with anger. None prefer to go near Saibaba at those times. Soon he will become calm. He will tell his devotees, "I never get angry! If i get angry with my children, where they will go. A mother never gets angry with her children. I love my devotees. I take care of their needs. He has uttered, "If you look to Me, i look to you! If you cast your burden upon Me, I shall surely bear it. If you seek my advise and help, it shall be given to you atonce. "Those who climb the steps of my mosque will become happy. They will not suffer any more. Those who have full faith upon his words reaped immense benefits. Sairam, Saisaran.

Radhakrishna Ayi, a humble devotee!

Radhakrishnaayi or mai is one woman devotee who served Baba in her own humble way. During the festival times like "Ramanavami" her house will be buzzling with cooking for the devotees and visitors. She will be assisted by several rich devotees who provide the resources for the cooking. Many people helped her in actual cooking by way of cutting the vegetables and other preparations. Whenever Baba slept in the Chavadi which is nearer to the Dwarakamai, she will remove the burned items neately, apply whitewash to the walls darkened by the soot and clean every thing and replace them neatly. She also participated in the Namasaptaha that was conducted for seven days during the Ramanavami celeberations. She was very much devoted to Sai. She managed the many events single handedly and she was responsible for gathering many things for the worship of Baba. Baba disapproved all the materials that was kept in the worship. He used to say that his property is the chilm and tin and the satka. Unnecessarily people dump many unwanted things in the masjid. Sairam, Saisaran.

Nana's thirst was quenched!

Nanasaheb Chandorkar was one influential devotee. He was a Deputy Collector. He came to Shirdi hearing about the fame of Baba. He was very much impressed with what he has seen. He was sincere and humble and he could gain Baba's love and his faith in Baba grew into leaps and bounds. Once he was on tour. On the road, he heard that one devotee's wife has developed pleague and was high with fever. Unfortunately, Nana was not having any Udhi given by Baba. Hence, he prayed Baba and took some mud and applied on the forehead of his wife. Immediately at the same time, the wife of the devotee was relieved from fever and she started to recover speedily. Once Nana went to Harischandra Hill to take Dharsan of a deity on the hill. It was severe summer. Nana was suffering from thirst. He could not find even a drop of water anywhere. He thought within himself, If Baba was there, he would definitely provide water. As soon as the thought struck him, a bill(a hilly tribe) was seen. Nana asked him if there is any water source nearby. The bill told him just below the very rock he was sitting, water will be found. With difficulty the rock was removed and lo! there was handful of water to quench the thirst of Nana. At the same time in the Masjid at Shirdi, Baba made some peculiar sound and when asked, he said, Nana is in need of water at a distant hill! Exactly at the same time, the Bill was seen by Nana. What a Divine Miracle. Sairam, Saisaran.

Urus and Ramanavami.

Muslims celeberate "Urus" by taking sandal paste and sandal powder in plates in procession. Saibaba allowed the procession on a particular day. From that time every year the local Muslims took procession of the sandal paste and powder and applied the paste in the mosque walls. The rest of the material was poured in "Nimbar" pits. One day a peculiar thought arose in the mind of a devotee of Baba. He thought that Baba gave permission for celeberation of "Urus" on "Rama Navami" day, a festival for Hindus. The devotee thought within himself that there must be Divine coincidence for performing the Urus on Ramanavami day. Why not ask Baba permission to celeberate the Ramanavami on that day. The main event of Ramanavami day is narrating the story of Rama. Who will narrate the story was the problem. But that was resolved by selecting each year one Puranik who happened to be conversant with the narration of "Rama katha". Every year, due to Divine blessings, one pundit or other happened to visit Shirdi and they were ready to perform the narration. Finally Baba appointed "Dasganu Maharaj" to narrate the same every year. Though the festivals were celeberated on the same day, no untoward happenings were noticed and Hindus and Muslims celeberated their festival peacefully. Sairam, Saisaran.

Wealth and Woman.

Mahlsapathy was a poor gold smith. He was a great devotee of Saibaba. He was privilaged to sleep in the Masjid every alternate day alongwith Tatya Kote Patil. Baba loved them much. Though Mahlsapathy was poor, Saibaba never allowed him to earn by any other means. Seeing the condition of Mahlsapathy, one Marwadi named Hansraj wanted to give a good sum of money to him but Baba has not allowed Mahlsapathy to accept the same. Only Saibaba knows what should be given, when and to whom. In matters of receiving Dakshina from the Devotees, Sai has not asked all. He said, "I ask only from those, Allah points". By giving the money, the devotee is rid of the debt due. Baba never kept any money with Him when the day ends. He used to distribute the Dakshina to different people in different proportions. None can understand the reasons behind Baba's actions. In fact the desire for wealth and woman are the greatest hurdles in the path of spiritual aspirant. Saibaba saw to that his devotees never fell prey to these vices. Sairam, Saisaran.

All creatures have Atma!

The people of Shirdi are very fortunate, especially those who were contemporary to Saibaba are the luckiest lot. They might not know their blessings. Everyday, they had the fortune to see Saibaba, took Udhi from His Divine Hand and some even drank the water that was used to clean the Divine Feet of Sai. He was the embodiment of Love and He loved His devotees as His own children. Night and Day, he was concerned about their welfare. Hence the devotees could spend their time without any burden or botheration. They have left all their concerns in his hand and enjoyed peaceful existence. Sai wanted nothing from His dear devotees. He wants them to remember Him always and see Him in all creatures. Once, He asked Lakshmi, "Oh Lakshmi! I am hungry, bring me food. Immediately, the devotee Lakshmi prepared food and brought roti, subji etc and placed in front of Sai. However Sai did not eat the food and He took the food and placed it in front of a dog which ate all with gusto. Lakshmi was annoyed. Oh Baba, why you pestered me to bring food? i prepared everything with my own hand and without tasting even a little bit, you placed it before the dog? Baba replied calmly, Oh Lakshmi! why you are perturbed. All creatures whether they talk or not has a soul which is Atma. Paramatma resides in all the creatures as Atma. The dog was hungry and hence i appeased its hunger. Such a beautiful teaching was given to the devotee Lakshmi on that day. What a nice episode? Sairam, Saisaran.

Baba raising Lendi garden.

During the initial years of his stay, Saibaba gave medicines to the people who came to him with various ailments. He was always successful in curing their diseases. People started approaching him for their health problems. Saibaba liked the company of Janakidas and Devidass. They will come to his place or he will go to their place. Devidass was residing in Shirdi few years before Baba came there. He was having a beautiful eyes. He was a Jnani. A Vaisya saint from Puntambi came to Shirdi once. After seeing Baba carrying pitchers of water to water the seeds, the saint said, "He is not an ordinary man. He is really a diamond. The people of Shirdi are very lucky to have such a worthy gem.Baba brought flower seeds of "Joy, Jui and Sendhu". He raised a beautiful garden in Lendi in which stand the beautiful Samadhi temple of Saibaba now. He brought those seeds from nearby places. Vaman Tatya gave him daily two unbaked earthern pots. Baba brought water in those pots and he used to place them beneath a tree after completing watering. As soon as he place those pots under the tree, the pots disintegrated due to raw mud pots. (to continue)

Baba's initial devotees.

Saibaba had few devotees in the initial period in Shirdi. Prominant among them are the Pujari of Khandoba temple, Shri Mahlsapathi, Madhav Rao(Shama) and Tatya Kote Patil, the son of Bayaji Ma who used to search out Sai in jungles and force feed him. Baba loved all of them alike. He allowed them in the Mosque and especially Mahlsapathy and Tatya stayed with Baba many years in the Mosque during the night time and they were conversing among themselves about many items. If any of them is found sleepy, Baba will press their head to wake them up. Usually Mahlsapathy used to doze. When Baba asked him to keep awake and watch Namajapa by placing his hand on the heart of Sai, his hand will become weighty indicating his sleep. He will sway his head more often indicating his sleep. After some time, when Tatya's father passed away, Baba asked Tatya to go and sleep in his house. Also, he asked Mahlsapathy to go and sleep in his house. But Mahlsapathy was not willing to leave Baba along. However Baba persisted and asked Mahlsapathy to go to his house. Subsequently a son was born to Mahlsapathy who was having three daughters. Baba used to say to Mahlsapathy, Daughters are like "Tamarind fruit" but a son is "Mango fruit". Thus Baba looked after the welfare of those devotees and saw that they progress in spiritual as well as temporal welfare. Sairam, Saisaran.

Sai's intial years in Shirdi and his routine.

In the initial years of his stay in Shirdi, Sai contacted one Janakidas. He also interacted with one Devidas. These two are saintly people. He begged his food from five houses. Whatever he got from these five houses were collected by him in a cloth bag if it is "Roti or solid items. If it is liquid, Sai received them in a tin container. After collecting his "Biksha, he mixed them all and offered to Allah. He took his food from this and left the balance in a container. The woman who cleaned the mosque, took about 4 or five rotis for her family. Even dogs and cats ate the rest. Baba never drove these creatures for He visusalized Allah in all the beings. Some times, he will not be seen in the masjid. During the time, he used to visit a distant well far away from the mosque. He used to take bath, clean his internal system in a peculiar way. He used to vomit his intestine and wash it and dry it on a Jambu tree. After which he used to swallow them. These are Yogi's way. NONE should dare to copy this. He used to wander long inside the adjoining jungles and bushes. During those times, Bayaji Ma, a devout lady took great pain in searching for Sai, took rotis and subji on her head searching for him in every nook and corner. Finding Sai sitting like a statue on a rocky bed, she would spread the food on a plate and compelled him to partake it. Otherwise she would force feed him. Such was her love for Sai.(to be contd)

Sai's Guru's place.

By the time Sai, now about 16 years old has moved away from his master "Venkusa" and started travelling in the western direction and in the course of his journey he reached "Shirdi", a small hamlet in Ahamadnagar District. He was always absorbed in his own Self and never interacted with any. He was oblivious of the harsh weather. He was not bothered about food or drink. After staying there for 3 years, it seems he has again left that placed. But his link with Shirdi and its people has not broken. He had to come back alongwith a marriage party after some time and from then onwards he started staying in a dilapidated mosque. He was accosted as "Ya Sai" by none other than the priest of Kandoba temple, the devotee "Mahlsapathy". Many people were eager to know about Sai, who are his parents and wherefrom he has come. Once a possessed man was asked, "What is the antecedents of this Sai. It was really Kandoba who possessed the man and said, Dig this place, he was practicing spiritual sadhana in this place for 12 years. When the people dug that place, they found a slab and when it was removed it led them to a celler where there were many peculiar objects indicating a place where somebody undertook penance. When Sai was asked, he simply said, it is His Guru's place and close it as before and take care of the place. Now the place is fenced and a resting place around the tree was constructed. People meditate and worship sitting in the place. Sairam, Saisaran(to be contd..)

Baba and his Guru.

The Muslim lady who took care of the baby reared the boy with care. However, the boy has become very mischivous and uncontrollable. He used to go to the Masjid and say Siva is Allah!. The Muslims at the mosque used to tease him for his impertinance. He will visit the Hindu temple and utter the name of Allah. Hence both the communities have got wild with the boy. They complained about the boy to his foster mother. Meanwhile her husband too passed away. Unable to tame him, she handed over the custody of the boy to one Guru Shri venkusa. The Guru took the boy "Sai" under his care and fostered him with much love. Thus Sai was under the care of his Guru for 12 years. The other boys who were under the care of Guru got jealous of Sai and they planned a strategy. While the Guru was with Sai, they hurled a brick aiming to Sai. Unfortunately the brick hit the head of Guru and there was blood shed. Sai was very much unhappy. His Guru bade him to go west. Sai departed from his Guru and was wandering towards the west. In the course of wanderings, he came to Shirdi and stayed under a neem tree unconcerned about the weather. (to be contd..)

Saibaba's birth!

It was the blessings granted by Lord Shiva to Baratwaja Rishi, that resulted in the Avatar Saibaba who was born in "Pathri", a place in erstwhile Nizam state. The mother was Devagiriamma and father was Gangabava, who plied a boat across the river and earned a little to lead a frugal life. They had no issues until one day, the Lord himself manifested himself before the devout Devagiriamma. She was astonished. Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva conferred on her unasked boons, the birth of a girl and boy and Shiva himself has promised to take birth as the boy in the family. The husband was absent during the entire episode since he went to the riverbed to take care of the boat due to heavy rains. True to the boons granted, first a girl was born and after some time as predicted a boy was born(saibaba). The birth was on 28 September 1935. The husband realising the validity of the boons was desparate to have the Dharsan of the Lord. Hence he was very much eager to leave family life and to pursue monastic life to achieve his goal. He left his pregnant wife but she was adament and followed her husband. When they were approaching a big tree, the wife had developed pains and the boy was born. Since her husband was eager to lead a life of renunciation, the mother left the new born baby at the mercy of nature, covering it with some tree leaves. A Muslim house holder who happened to go near the tree, heard the cries of the new born baby. He searched for the parents but could not find any. Hence he took the baby in his custody since he was issueless. He handed over the boy to his wife and they took great care to bring up the baby. (To be contd..) Sairam.

Incredible Saibaba!

Saibaba was a peculiar Avatar. Many considered him as a 'mad fakir'. Those who moved with him in close proximity for a considerable time could gauge some of his moods. Most of the time, Sai used to say, "Allah Malik". He asserts that he is only a humble servant of God. Most of the time, he used to sit alone in the Masjid facing the "Dhuni", the fire place. He used to feed the fire with fire wood. Night and day it will burn. It is the experience of his close devotees or followers that many of their sins are burnt away in the Dhuni. Baba was immeasurable. He was aware of whatever is going on the external world. Hence he could save a little baby that fell on the fire at a place quite a distance from Shirdi. He provided water to Nana during hot summer in Harischandra hill in the form of Bhil. He saved Minatai, daughter of Nana Saheb when she was undergoing labor pains. He sent one of his devotee with Udhi and a copy of Arati song in a timely manner so that it could be delivered in crucial time to save her. Many such examples abount in Sai Sat Charita. When dogs eat the food placed in the container, Baba never drove them away. He always taught his devotees that God dwells in all beings and animals. He never encouraged people to kill poisonous snakes. He used to say, "Nothing will harm us without God's will". People gave him "Biksha" in the form of roti or bread, milk or buttermilk, subji and Dhall. He used to go to the houses of some five devotees. Though he collected "Dakshina", he distributed every penny and nothing remained with him. He used to say, "Allah or Masudi Mai asked for the repayment of debt and hence i collect Dakshina only from those whom Allah points out. Sairam.

Cast all your burdens on me and I shall surely bear it!

What is the relationship between devotee and Saibaba. Apparantly indifferent to the outer circumstances and events, Baba takes care of his devotees as the eye lid protect the eyes. Hence, once the devotee comes into the fold of Baba, he need not fear about anything. As mortals we are, we can not delve into the future and know what is in store for us. But He is aware of the dangers that lurk in the ways of his devotees and wards of the troubles in time. Hence Baba has proclaimed that "Whoever puts his feet in Shirdi soil, his sufferings would come to an end. The wretched and miserable would rise into plenty of joy and happiness as soon as they climb the steps of my mosque. My mortal remains would speak from the Tomb. Why Fear, when I am Here. Cast all your burdens on me and I am sure to bear it. The assurances are valid for ever. Sairam, Saisaran.

Baba teases Dada Kelkar.

Dada saheb Kelkar was an orthodox brahmin but he had deep faith in Saibaba. Once Baba baded him to go to Korala to purchase meat. When he started for the errand, Baba told him not to go but to send somebody else. Hence he sent his servant Pandu. But Baba cancelled that also. It is only to test Dada Saheb, Baba acted in this way. On another day when Dada Kelkar was present, Baba was preparing "Pulav", a meat preparation in the hundi. Baba asked Dada Kelkar, "Is the salt is enough in the Pulav"? Without seeing, Dada said it is OK. Baba told him, you have not seen the preparation nor you have tasted it. Without worrying about your orthodox ways, put your hand and take a drop or two and put it in your food". Here actually Baba was again testing his devotee. Actually saints and sadhus won't allow their devotees to taste forbidden food. Some others used to pinch the baby and when it cries, they will embrace it. Likewise Baba wanted to tease Dada outwardly but prevented him from acting upon his words. Saicharan, Sairam.

Baba's Chavadi Procession.

Saibaba slept one day in Masjid or Dwarakamai and on the next day he used to sleep in the "Chavadi", a two roomed place nearer to the Masjid. When the time for proceeding to the Chavadi begins, people gathered there in the Masjid, performed keertans and Bhajans, lights were lit and many accompaniments to the Bhajans were made ready like the Tal,Tashe and harmonium etc. When every thing is ready and in place, Tatya used to call Baba, he will lift Baba by the armpit. Baba used to extinguish the light and remove the firewood from the fire place. Then he will put his joli on his shoulder, take the hookah with him along with a small bamboo stick which he used to carry wherever he goes. Beldars standing on the enterance of Masjid, shout loudly "Saibaba ki Jai". On the route, colourful cloths were spread for Baba to walk. Mahlsapathi used to hold one hand and Tatya, the other hand of Baba. Baba used to move very slowly. As he reaches the junction point, he will make some unusual jestures with his hand by moving it up and down listening to the music and drums. Sometimes, Mahlsapathy used to get into a trance and move and dance in a peculiar manner. Baba is never affected by all these. He will stand facing the North. His body and face had a peculiar glow. Those who witnessed the Chavadi procession are very lucky. Those days are gone and will never come again. After entering the Chavadi, Baba was seated in his gadi, with cushion seatings etc. Then Jog performs the Arati with all pomp and parapernalia. Slowly all take Dharsan and take his permission to leave to their houses. Tatya gives Baba scents and perfumes. Baba used to be garlanded and decorated with colourful beads etc. He is unconcerned with all this. He used to tell Tatya, Come when you are free and enquire about my welfare. Take care of me. Then Tatya bows to Baba and departs to his home. Baba used to lay sixty of seventy white towels one over the other and after preparing his beddings thus, he used to lay. Let the devotees remember about the Chavadi procession and his resting in the Chavadi, before going to sleep. Sairam, Saisaran.

How Baba blessed Mrs Ambedkar who was issuless?

There was one Mrs. Aurangabadgar, who had no issues for 25 years. She prayed several forms of god and goddess but she could not get her wish satisfied. Ultimately she came to the presence of Saibaba alongwith her sister's son Viswanath. Daily they visited the Masjid, but however she could not get a private audience with Baba. She approached Shama for intervention on her behalf. Shama told her that Baba's Durbar is open but she has to bade her time. One day when Baba finished his supper, Shama dried the hands of Baba with a towel. Baba pinched the cheek of Shama. Shama used to often argue with Baba. This time he said, "Baba why you are pinching me? Baba told him, Oh Shama I am with you for the past 72 janmas. You are finding fault for simply pinching you. Shama told Baba, "Oh Deva we want you to give us kisses and blessings" Baba told him, I have come preciously for that purpose. While they were talking in this tone, Shama signalled Mrs. Aurangabadgar to come up. The lady came to Baba and presented coconut and agarbathis. Baba shaked the coconut and there was a moving sound. Baba said, Oh Shama! what this coconut tells? Shama said, Baba this lady wants that a child should develop in her womb likewise. Baba told Shama, "How people are mad. How a coconut will give her child?. Shama pleaded, Baba, i know the efficacy of your blessings. Give her the coconut with your blessings. This will give her a string of babies. Finally Baba blessed Mrs Aurangabadkar that within a year you will have a baby. The coconut was broken and one half was handed over to the lady and the other half was eaten by Baba and Shama. Shama told the lady, "Amma you mark the words of Baba, If it do not come true, i will break a coconut on Baba's head and drive him away from the Masjid, Otherwise i will not call my name as Shama!. Exactly within a year, the lady delivered a baby and the parents came to the presence of Baba and an amount of Rs.500/- was presented by the father which was utilised for constructing a stable for the horse, "Shyamakarna". Saisaran, Sairam.

How Baba's Udhi cured many diseases?

There were number of instances where the efficacy of Udhi has been highlighted in Sai Satcharitra. A old man was suffering from kidney stones and the Doctors advised him surgery. As he was very old and keeping indifferent health, he could not convince himself to undergo the surgery. However, the inamdar of the town who was always keeping stock of Saibaba's Udhi happened to come there. He gave Udhi to the son for administering with water to his father. Accordingly, the Udhi was given and within few moments the stone came out of Urine mysteriously. An Iranian gentleman's daughter was suffering from eplipsy. She used to get fits more often and hence her limbs become underdeveloped and she was weak. She was brought to Saibaba. Baba blessed the girl with Udhi. She used to get frequent fits. After Baba's blessings, she got fits once in 7 hours instead of every hour. In a few days, by applying the Udhi and taking it in, she was cured completely. Saisaran, Sairam.

How Minatai was saved by Baba.

The efficacy of Baba's Udhi is well illustrated in the episode of Nana Saheb Chandorkar's daughter Minatai's crucial delivery time. Nana saheb was in Jamner at that time. His daughter Minatai developed labor pains. For two days she was suffering from severe pain without any relief. Nana tried many remedies and at last he remembered Saibaba and prayed to him earnestly. At that time Baba was seated in Dwarakamai and he called one devotee who was about to depart to his native which is beyond Jalagam. Baba told him to go to Jamner and hand over the Udhi to Nanasaheb and a copy of Arati song was also given along with that. The man pleaded, "Baba i am having money for journey upto Jalgaom. How i can go to Jamner which is far away? Baba said, "Allah will provide". After taking the Udhi, Arati song and Baba's permission, the devotee left for Jalgam. He was hardly having any money for his further journey to Jamner. He was in a perplexed situation. Suddenly he heard a voice calling his name. He was astonished to find a Peon with turban, who told him that he is coming from Nanasaheb. He has sent the tonga for the journey. Gaining confidence, he ascended the tonga and they reached the outskirts of Jamner. The peon asked him to partake some food which was sent by Nana saheb. After eating they reached Jamner. The peon halted the cart to ease himself. The devotee also went out to ease himself. On return he found that there was no cart or peon. He grew anxious and went near a taluk office where some one guided him to the house of Nanasaheb. At that time, the condition of Minatai grew worse. The devotee handed over the Udhi from Baba to Nanasaheb with a copy of Arti. Nana become calm and asked his wife to give the udhi mixed with water to their daughter. Arati song was recited. Instantly a baby was born and everybody were happy. This is the nature of Saibaba. He anticipates the problems of his devotees and assuages them in time. Saisaran, Sairam.

Saibaba's instructions to Mrs.Gokale.

Saibaba never advocates vows like abstaining from food. There was one devotee named Mrs.Gokale. She came to Shirdi and went to the Masjid along with Dada Kelkar. Saibaba told the devotees that he won't allow people to remain hungry due to vows. He asked Mrs Gokale to go to Kelkar's house and prepare "Poorna Poli", a sweet preparation using bison, jaggery etc. Accordingly, she went to Kelkar's house. She found that Mrs Kelkar was out of doors and there was none to prepare food for the children and family. Hence, she started preparing "Poorna Polis" and served them to the children and Mrs Kelkar and she also partook the same. Everybody were astonished at the timely instruction of Saibaba in helping Kelkar's family. Saisaran, Sairam.

Noolkar and Baba.

Noolkar was a sub judge. Nanasaheb Chandorkar and Noolkar were best friends. Nana saheb narrated about Saibaba many times to Noolkar. As Noolkar was not interested in saints, he was reluctant to visit Shirdi. But Nana Saheb persisted with Noolkar. Atlast Noolkar budged with two conditions. He should get a Brahmin cook as well as good Nagpur Oranges for presenting to Baba. Mysteriously on the very next day, a brahmin cook approached Noolkar for employment. He also got a basketful of 100 Nagpur oranges from nowhere. As both the conditions were fulfilled, he had to go to Shirdi. At first Baba was very angry with him. Later Noolkar found that Baba was a Divine avatar. Hence he stayed in Shirdi. During his last moments, Vedas were read to him and Noolkar passed away peacefully after drinking the water that was used for washing the feet of Baba. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba and Shama's vow.

There was a priest of Devi Saptasrungi at Vani. He was perturbed by innumerable problems and lost his peace. Day and night he was praying to the mother Saptasrungi to alleviate his sufferings. Pleased with the devotion, the goddess came into his dream and asked the priest to go to "Baba". Before he could get further clarifications, he woke up from the sleep. He thought over the matter and resolved to go to Trayambakeshwar. He went there and recited "Sri Rudram" in praise of Lord Shiva and performed the customory rituals like bathing the Shiva Ling with water and other items. In spite of staying there for ten days, he could not get peace. Again he prayed to the goddess more pitiably and the Devi appeared in his dream and chided him for his confusion. The mother said, "I meant Samartha Sai of Shirdi" Go to him and you will gain peace. Accordingly the priest was anxious to go to Shirdi. Meanwhile Shama, a close devotee of Baba was advised to vitit Vani to offer his vows to the family deity, Mother Saptasrungi Devi. It seems that Shama's mother could not fulfill her two vows to visit Vani till her death. She obtained the assurance of his son Shama in her death bed to fulfill those two vows on her behalf. Shama forgot those vows and thirty years passed. An astroleger visited Shirdi and his predictions in respect of devotees like Buti and Kaka came true. Hence Shama's brother consulted the astrologer. The astrologer told him regarding the two unfulfilled vows of his mother and asked his brother Shama to fulfill those vows forthwith otherwise, the troubles they are undergoing for the past so many years will continue since it is God's wreath. Shama got freightened by the prediction and immediately asked a goldsmith to make two silver icons of breast for offering to Saptasrungi Devi. After getting the icons, he rushed to the Masjid and placed them at the feet of Baba asking him to relieve him from the vows. Baba asked him to go to Vani personally to offer the same at the feet of the mother. Hence Shama went to Vani and he was searching for the priest and at the same time the priest was anxious to go to Shirdi. What a coincidence? When the priest came to know that Shama came from Shirdi, he embraced him and accompanied him to Shirdi after Shama's vow is fulfilled. When they reached the Masjid, the very Dharsan of Saibaba gave immense peace to the priest as told by the Devi Saptasrungi in his dream. Saisaran, Sairam.

Tendulkar's medical exam and Baba's predictions.

The family of Tendulkar were devotees of Saibaba for a long time. The mother, Savitri Bai Tedulkar has composed around 800 bhajans on Saibaba. Her son was studying for the final year Medical examination. Some astrolegers told him that due to some malefic planets, it is not possible for him to succeed in the examination that year. He was much worried and upset. His mother visited Shirdi and narrated to Baba the condition of her son's predicament regarding the final exam. Baba told her, "Let him not worry about the predictions of astrolegers. Let him calmly study and write the examination. He is sure to come out successful this year. Savitribai told the events to her son and asked him not to get disheartened due to the prediction of astroleger but to have faith in the words of Baba. Accordingly, he sat for the final examination and wrote them. Still he was hesistant about the outcome. Hence he was not bothered about the practical examination. Meanwhile his professor has sent a student with the message, that Tendulkar has cleared all the written papers and he should attend the practical exam forthwith. He went to the practicals and passed them as predicted by Baba. Hence, we should keep our faith in Baba and do our duties without fail. Saisaran, Sairam.

How Lakshmichand from Santacruz was drawn to Baba?

One devotee Lala Lakshmichand at Santacruz dreamt one night about a grand old saint in the company of his devotees. He was not able to identify the saint. On the same night, one of his friend, Sankar Rao, came to him and asked him whether he is willing to accompany him to Shirdi. He accepted the proposal, went to his uncle and obtained a hand loan of Rs.15/- In the train, they were enquiring about the leelas of Baba with the co passengers and singing some Bhajans. He desired to present some fruits to Saibaba. As they were travelling in the tonga, Lakshmichand was absorbed in the nice surroundings and completly forgot about the fruits. Meanwhile a old lady was running behind the tonga with a basketful of fruits. The tonga was stopped, and some fruits were purchased from her. The old woman told him to present the remaining fruits also to Saibaba and went away. Then Lakshmichand thought that probably Baba may be related to her. When they were nearing the Masjid, they saluted the flags. They reached Baba's presence. On seeing him, Baba told, "Mischivous fellow! what is the need for obtaining hand loan. During the journey, what is the need for enquiring about Him. Now, are you satisfied? Lakshmichand was really happy, and found that Baba knew his innermost thoughts. Two more incidents proved Baba's Omniscence and he was blessed by Baba with Rs.3/-stating, "Babu!, i have already given you Rs.2/- Now keep this Rs.3/- with instructions to keep it in the Puja and worship it. Then Lakshmichand reached his native place and narrated everything to his mother but he was not able to understand Baba's words that he was given Rs.2/- earlier. His mother thought over the issue and finally she could recollect one incident. As Lakshmichand was visiting Shirdi, his father used to visit Akkalkot Maharaj. He was a great saint. He gave your father Rs.2/- for keeping in the Puja. Your father worshipped them with care. Afterwards the coins were lost and the worship was discontinued. Now think about Baba's instructions and worship the coins with care. It was really a great revealation to Lakshmichand and he become a staunch devotee of Saibaba. Saisaran, Sairam.

Saibaba and brinjal preparations.

Two brinjals were sent through a devotee to Shirdi with instruction to prepare different preparations including 'kascharya'. When the devotee reached Shirdi, she prepared the brinjal and brought it to the presence of Baba. Baba ate them with relish and asked for "kascharya". Radha krishna Ayi was informed about Baba's need. She was perplexed since it is not the season for brinjals. Hence, she enquired who brought preparation of brinjals to Baba. She came to know that the same devotee has been instructed by the sender to prepare "Kascharya". Baba instantly know the mind and thought of all the people and this is the evidence to this. Saicharan, Sairam.

Damu anna's cotton business and Baba's sane advise.

When Damodar Savalram Nasne(Damu anna) was contemplating on doing trading in cotton business, he wanted to consult Baba. Hence, he has sent a letter to Baba seeking his opinion. The letter was brought by Shama and kept at Baba's feet. Baba said, 'what is the letter'?. Shama told him that it is from Damu Anna. Baba quipped, "Why Damu is after gaining lakhs of rupees, Let him remain content with his wealth". Even before the letter was opened, Baba could know the content of the letter. Shama was astonished and drafted a suitable reply to Damu anna. When the letter reached Damu anna, he was perplexed and thought that he has done a mistake in consulting Baba. However Shama has written him that there is a difference in listening and seeing Baba. Hence Damu anna reached Shirdi and was messaging the feet of Baba. He was thinking in his mind, that it would be wise to share some profit with Baba". Even while he was thinking like this, Baba told him, "I do not want to get embroiled in such worldly affairs. This was enough for Damu anna and he returned. During the season, there was plenty of harvest of cotton and all those who hoarded cotton met with heavy loss. Fortunately Baba saved Damu anna by his timely advise. Sairam, Saisaran.

Shama was bitten by a snake! How Baba cured him?

Once Shama was bitten by a poisonous snake. His friends wanted to take Shama to Viroba temple as usual for snake bites. But Shama came to the mosque. As soon as Baba saw him, Baba was very angry and hurled many abuses at Shama. "Oh viscious Padturya!(wretched brahmin) do not climb the steps of my mosque, get down, get down from here". Shama was utterly confused at Baba's angry mood. He thought of seeking refuge at Baba's feet. But when Baba drove him like this, he becomes inconsolable. However, he sat in the open. After some time, Baba's anger came down. Shama climbed the mosque and sat near Baba. Baba told him, "do not worry the least, Allah will take care and you will become alright. Go to your house and eat as per your likes and be moving. Never lie down or sleep. Shama followed Baba's words and he was cured subsequently. The abuse hurled at Shama was in fact addressed to the poison not to climb up. It is the indirect blessings of Baba. Without using water or rice as is the wont of "mantriks", by his mere words, Baba drove out the poison from Shama's body. Saisaran, Sairam.

How Mirikar was saved by Baba from snake?

Saibaba used to warn the devotees whenever such occasions occur. When Bala Saheb Mirikar once came to Shirdi before going to a place called 'Sitali' on official tour, Baba told him, "Do you know the Lamba bav! He is very cruel. But who can harm those who climbed the mosque. Mirikar could not understand the words of Baba. Baba told him, "Take Shama with you". But Mirikar thought that it will be inconvenient for Shama. However when Shama told Baba about Mirikar's opinion, Baba told him that we have to tell good things. If they don't listen what we can do? What is destained is bound to happen. Then Mirikar thought about Baba's words and he agreed to Shama to accompay him. They reached Sitali around 9 PM. Since the Office people has not reached the place, they were sitting and chitchating and Mirikar was reading a newspaper. Suddenly it was seen that a snake ascended on the upper cloth of Mirikar near the waist. The peon shouted, "Snake, Snake". Mirikar removed the upper towel and moved away. The timely warning of the peon enabled the snake to be killed. None was harmed. Mirikar thought about Baba's forethought and warning and from that time, he remained attached to Saibaba's worship. Baba and V.H.Takur, a devotee.

There was a devotee named V.H.Takur from Revenue Department. How he came in the presence of Baba is itself an interesting story. When Takur was on official tour, he came across a Kannada saint named Appa. He went to him and bowed to him. Actually the saint was explaining "Vichara Sagara", a spiritual treatise to the audience. At the end when Takur met Appa, the saint told him, that spiritual journey is like walking on a sharp razor. You have to make your fullest effort. When you go to the North as part of your Official journey, you will come across your Guru, who will show you the real path. Takur was posted to a remote place where there is no proper road and it was hilly terrain. Hence he had to travel over a buffallow which gave him much pain. Afterwards he got his promotion and he was directed to Shirdi by his superior officers. When Takur reached the Masjid, Baba welcomed him and said that the route for this is not as easy as narrated by Appa or the buffallow journey you had on your way. The spiritual life is very tough and you have to practically tread the journey as told by Appa. In fact, Takur was very much astonished at Baba's Omnipresence and Omnipotence. He repeated verbatim what transpired in the presence of the saint Appa. Thus Takur was convinced of Appa's words and became a strong devotee of Saibaba. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba and the Nasik Brahmin.

A Brahmin from Nasik came to Shirdi, probably under the invitation of Shri Buti. He was an expert palm reader and the predictions told by him in respect of shri Buti and others turned to be true. He wanted to see the palm of Saibaba but Baba had denied permission. Baba gave him some fruits instead. He went to his place, took bath and started performing his routine rituals. Meanwhile in the Masjid, Baba asked Shri Buti to go to the Nasik Brahmin and fetch Dakshina from him. Buti went there and conveyed the message to the Brahmin. But the Nasik man was perturbed at this call. He thought "Baba is not my Guru and why should i offer Dakshina to him? However he could not refuse the call since the millionaire Buti himself had come to fetch him. Hence he cut short his rituals, and accompanied Buti but resolved not to bow down before Baba nor offer any Dakshina. Before this incident, Baba asked some of his devotees, "Bring Geru(A colouring dye to colour the cloths) we will wear geru cloths. Meanwhile the Nasik Brahmin came to the Masjid alongwith Buti. Suddenly he prostrated before Baba. Everybody in the Masjid were astonished since they knew that the Nasik Brahmin is an orthodox man. When Buti asked him how he had bowed down before Baba against his own resolve, the man said, I have seen my own Guru in the place of Baba. Hence i bowed down to him. Again the Brahmin saw only Saibaba who was asking for Dakshina. The Brahmin willingly gave Dakshina. When the people gathered in the Masjid asked Baba how this Brahmin bowed before him, He said, he saw his late Guru Kolab Maharaj there. That is the reason for Baba's asking for 'geru' to colour the cloth. Saisaran, Sairam.

Dasganu and Isavasya Upanishad.

Dasganu spread the name of Saibaba by his beautiful discourses. He had a rare efficiency to write Marathi poetry. He tried his hands to translate one of the smallest Upanishad yet very profound one, "Isavasya Upanishad". It contained only 18 stanzas but covered the most profound and philosophical subject of "Imminence of God in the creation". The very first stanza depicts that "All this is God"-"Isawasyam Idam Sarvam". The essence of this Upanishad teaches that everything is permeated by God and one should be content with what God has blessed him with. We should not hanker for the possession of others. Dasganu attempted to bring the content of Isavasya in Marathi 'Ovi" verses. Though he translated the Upanishad, he was not satisfied with the outcome. Hence, he thought of consulting Saibaba to solve the riddle. Baba told him, "Do not worry, the servant maid of Kaka Saheb in Villeparle will show you the way. People who assembled in the Masjid thought that Baba is cutting jokes. But Dasganu knew that Baba's words contain real Truth. Hence, he proceeded to Villeparle, a suburb of present Mumbai and he was taking rest at the house of Kaka. Suddenly he heard a melodious and beautiful song from the lips of a servantmaid. She was singing about the colour and design of a beautiful sari. In fact, the girl was wearing torn cloths on her body but had an exuberant mood. Hence when he was presented with a pair of new cloths, he requested the host to provide the servant girl, a beautiful half sari and as per the wish of Dasganu, the servant maid got a beautiful half sari. She wore it on the next day, danced her way, played with the girls in the locality and won the games. The next day, she kept the sari in her house and wore a torn cloth on her body and was attending to her cores. She was as happy as she wore a new dress and bubbling with joy. Dasganu found that happiness and sorrow depend on the condition of the mind and not on external things. Thus he was shown the rear truth by the servant maid in practical terms. This is one of a rare miracle by Baba. Saisaran, Sairam.

How Baba taught a lesson to Hemadpant?

Once Baba asked Hemadpant to go to Shama and fetch him Rs.15/- as Dakshina and sit with him for a while and chit chat with him. It so happened that Hemadpant was pressing the feet of Baba and one devotee who was blessed by Baba within seven days of reaching Shirdi was present. Hemadpant was staying in Shirdi from 1910. He had a perturbing thought. The new devotee was blessed by Baba within seven days of his arrival whereas his long stay (1910-1917) didn't fetch him the grace of Baba. As Baba is aware of the innermost thoughts of his devotees, he asked Hemadpant to go to Shama and chitchat with him and come back. Thus Hemadpant was in Shama's house. Shama was astonished at the arrival of Hemadpant. He asked him, "How you are here at this hour? It seems you are coming from the Masjid, "What is the matter?. Hemadpant patiently explained him, that Baba has directed him to Shama to fetch Rs.15/- as Dakshina as well as to sit and chitchat with you. Then Shama told him, Please ease yourself and i will be back. He gave him a panvada for eating. When Hemadpant sat on the front side verandah, he found Jnaneswari, a holy book for parayan. In fact, Hemadpant was in the habit of reading this holy book daily. On the particular day, he could not complete the parayan. Hence he opened the book. Mysteriously, the unread portion came to his view and he finished reading it. He thought that Baba sent him to Shama to complete the Parayan. Meanwhile Shama returned and enquired Hemadpant the purpose. The later told him, "Let us talk about the leelas of Baba. Shama told him, i am an illeterate riot whereas you are an educated man. You are here for the past so many years and watching the leelas of Sai. However, one incident comes to my memory. There was one illeterate old woman named "Radhabai". She was the mother of Kasaba Deshmuk. She came to Shirdi alongwith the people of Sangamner. She loved Baba and attached to Him. She inwardly prayed for some holy sacred mantra diretly for recitation from Baba. She went to her staying place and abstained from food and water for three days thinking that she should eat only after getting her wish fulfilled. Shama interwined on her behalf and begged Baba, that she should be blessed with mantra otherwise people will blame Baba that she perished since Baba has not granted her genuine desire. Baba called her to His presence and pleaded, "Oh mother! why do you subject yourself to this ordeal? My guru never blown any mantra on my ear. He was compassionate and incarnation of Love. He looked after me lovingly. He shaved my head and asked two pieces of copper coins. Ofcourse my Guru is not after money. What he wanted is "Faith and Patience". Thus I served him for twelve long years. He never gave me any sacred formula for repeating. His love is like that of a tortoise which looks after the baby tortoises by its look. It never feeds the babies nor give warmth by its presence. Thus the baby tortoises are cared by the mere look of the mother. Thus My Guru showered his grace and love to me through His gracious glance. Hence do not crave for any mantra from me. The story impressed Hemadpant very much and he found that his mind could get peace by hearing the beautiful story of the old lady and thus he was blessed by Baba in a timely manner. The Miser and Brahma jnana.

Is it easy to acquire "Brahma Jnana"? The following episode of Saicharita gives a fine example. A rich man who possessed every thing and who lacked nothing materially somehow developed a desire to get "Brahma jnana". But his close friend chided him for this attempt. His friend told him, "You are too much concerned with the worldly riches, wife, children and comforts. How can you seek the greatest gift of "Brahma Jnana" When you think twice to help the poor, how can you aspire for Brahma Jnana? Unconcerned with the comments of his friend, this rich man engaged a tonga(horse cart) for the up and down journey. Thus, he came to the immediate presence of Saibaba and pleaded, "Baba! People say that you can grant "Brahma jnana" to those who are eager. I have come from a long distance. I have every thing, a man can desire. If only I get this gift, i will consider myself as fortunate. Baba told the miser, Oh man! I consider this moment as very fortunate. None comes to me for Brahma Jnana. Everybody pester me for mundane things. Hence, it is an unique opportunity. Sit here calmly and i will explain to you the entire gamut of "Brhama jnana". Thus Baba made him to sit for sometime and meanwhile Baba called a boy and asked him to procure a hand loan of Rs.5/- from Nandu Marwadi. The boy returned saying that Nandu was not there. He was sent to Bala groacer with the same results. This was repeated by Baba two or more times. The miser was sitting all the while noticing this drama. He was anxious to get the Brahma jnana and hence he pestered Baba saying, "Show me this Jnana early so that i can return satisfied". Baba told him, Oh Man! Don't you notice all the happenings here. This miser could have easily lent Baba Rs.5/- which is a very small amount. He was unable to decide even this. But he was asking Baba for Brahma jnana. Baba repeated, "It is not easy to get Brahma jnana for a miser like you". You have to sacrifice your all for the sake of Brahma jnana. You have to sacrifice the instruments of action and the senses. You have to sacrifice your mind. You have to sacrifice your possessiveness and wealth. Then only you become qualified for this knowledge. Remove from your pocket the value of fifty times five. The miser was astonished at the exact amount he was keeping in his pocket. He removed the currency notes and it was exactly Rs.250/-. You role your notes and keep it. If you are reluctant to spare even Rs.5/- how you can desire for the great knowledge? Thus the miser and all those who assembled in the mosque become wiser by Baba's teachings on that day. Baba's peculiar ways of curing the devotees.

How Saibaba cured the diseases of many of his devotees is legend. His treatment is also very peculiar and differ from normal treatment. To a man who was suffering from ailment of eye, Baba prescribed "peepa paste"(this is used for making marks in the cloths by washer man for identification. The paste was introduced in the eye of the suffering man and a bandage was tied. Next day, water was poured copiously over the eye and the eye became clean and the man was cured completely. Normally none will use 'peepa' for eye ailment. When Shama was suffering from piles complaint, Baba prescribed him juice from the senna pods. This cured Shama. After some time, Shama suffered from piles once again. Without consulting Baba, he took the same medicine prescribed earlier but the disease was aggrevated. Shama approached Baba who cured him by His grace. One Alandi Swami was suffering from severe ear ache. He was operated upon but his ear ache did not subside. Hence he came to the mosque and had Dharsan of Saibaba. Baba touched his ear and said, Allah Acha Karega. After taking Dharsan and Udhi, the Swami returned to Bombay. He consulted a Doctor who examined him and said, there is no need for any further operation. In few days, he was completly cured as foretold by Baba. Saisaran, Sairam.

Merits of reading Sai Sat charita.

Sai Satcharita has been written for daily reading. It is like reading other holy books and the efficacy of reading it daily has been explained in the Satcharita. Those who read the entire book in a week sitting in the Dwarakamai Masjid gets immense spiritual benefits. All the genuine desires of the devotees are fulfilled by Baba. In addition to temporal benefits, it purifies our soul of blemishes like "Vishnu Sahasranama". Hence, those who are intent upon their spiritual welfare should do daily reading of Satcharita. May Lord Sai bless all, who read the Divine history with faith and Love. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba's instructions must be followed in toto.

Those people who listened to Baba's instructions while leaving Shirdi, were always safe. Those who have not followed his instructions, suffered many difficulties en route. Tatya Patil once wanted to leave Shirdi for market in a tonga driven by new horse. He went to the mosque to get the permission of Baba before leaving for the market. Baba said, "Don't go now! Atleast take Shama with you. As Tatya was in a hurry, he went to the market without listening to Baba's warning. As one of the horse was new, it got freightened on seeing a bicycle on the way and it ran fast, and it fell down toppling the cart. Fortunately Tatya was not hurt much. He remembered Baba's warning. Likewise one European gentleman, who wanted to enter into the masjid and kiss Baba's hand was prevented from entering by Baba. He was not happy with the treatment meted out to him. He wanted to leave Shirdi. He asked Baba's permission. Baba said, "Do not go to day". But the gentleman left without following Baba's warning. Initially, the horses were running normally. But near the Savulviheer well, a cyclist passed by. Excited by this, the horses ran very fast, stumbled upon a stone which tilted the cart. The European was thrown out and dragged for a few distance and he sustained bruises. He was admitted to Kopergaon hospital and he had to stay there for few days for the cure. Thus those who listened to Baba were safe. We must follow Baba's dictum. Saisarn, Sairam.

Tatya, Bayaji Bai and Baba.

Tatya Kote Patil received abundant love from Shirdi Baba. Tatya called Baba as 'Mama'. Bayaji ma treated Baba as her own close relative. She was eager to feed Baba as if a mother feeds her child. The crazy fakir used to wander deep inside the jungle. Bayaji Ma used to wander miles together to search out for the mad fakir. It is not the end. Baba used to be seated on some rock deeply absorbed in his own Self. He will be oblivious of Bayaji ma's presence. She never gave up. She used to spread the leaf before him who is sitting like a statue. She force fed Baba with the chappathi, vegetable etc. Baba remembered her great service and hence he showered his full blessings on Tatya. He allowed Tatya and Mahlsapathi to stay in the mosque in the night. They will be discussing many items till midnight. But poor Tatya and Mahlsapathi could not resist sleeping and they used to doze off in the middle. Baba will hit them, shake them until they wake up. These sweet ordeals lasted for many years. When Tatya's father passed away, Baba allowed Tatya to stay in his house. It is an open secret, Baba gave his life to save Tatya when he was laid up with fever during the Vijayadasami day in 1918. Two years back, Baba told Ramachandra Patil, "Tatya will pass away during Dusserah two years hence. As per Baba's prediction came true. Tatya was laid up with fever for many days before Vijayadasami. He had feeble pulse on that day. People thought that he will pass away. But a transformation took place. Baba passed away on Vijayadasami day and Tatya become alright. Thus Tatya was taken care fully by Baba. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba took over the sufferings and diseases from devotees.

Saibaba suffers for the sake of devotees many a time. He won't reveal it. But when the mother of kaparde narrated Baba, that her young son was suffering from fever with bubonic plague, Baba said, "Do not worry, the thick clouds will disperse and the sky will become pure once again". He lifted his kafni and shown to the mother of the boy kaparde, fully grown bubonic plague boils. He said, i have to suffer for the sake of my devotee. Thus assured of Baba's protection, the mother was relieved of her worry. Once during Deepavali day in 1910, Baba was silently sitting beside the fire and he was feeding the fire with logs of firewood. Suddenly he inserted his own hand in the fire instead of the logs. Finding such catostrope Shama and a servant working in the mosque, "Madhav' came to the place and pulled Baba by waist and removed him bodily. Before that it was found that Baba's hand has been scalded by the fire. Baba came to his conscious and said, 'in a distant place, a blacksmith's wife was pumping air in to the fireplace. When her husband suddenly called, she rushed to his presence without noticing her baby slipped in to the fire. I inserted my hand and saved the child. I am glad that the child is saved. No matter if my hand is scalded. Coming to know such mishap, Nana Saheb brought a Doctor named Paramanand to attend Baba. Baba refused such treatment. His lepor devotee, Bagoji applied ghee to the affected place and bandaged it after keeping a green leaf over the wound. Finally the hand was healed. But the process of applying ghee and bandaging with leaves by Bayaji continued till Baba's Mahasamadhi. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba's Padukas were installed under the Neem tree.

Once, Govinda kamalakar Dixit, came to Shirdi. There was a discussion on Baba's first visit to Shirdi. It was revealed that Baba used to sit under a neem tree when he came to Shirdi initially. Hence Govinda Kamalakkar confided with other devotees that there should be some memorial indicating Baba's first visit. Hence Kaka Sahab Dixit, purchased the place around the neem tree to commemorate the first visit of Baba to Shirdi. It was decided to establish the foot prints engraved in a stone under the neem tree. At that time Govinda Kamalakkar has said, If his master comes to know of the plan, he will provide a much better 'foot imprints in some superior metal'. Hence, the plan was discussed with His master Kothari. He came to Shirdi and got a plan of the foot print and it was taken to Upasani Maharaj, who improvised with some figures and a sanskrit stanza indicating the greatness of the footprints. Accordingly the engraved foot prints were brought to Shirdi. Baba gave Rs.25/- for embedding the foot prints. It was carried on the head of BB Narke. Baba blessed the symbols saying that this is the foot prints of the Lord and it may be installed on Sravana Purnima day. Accordingly it was fixed on Sravana Purnima. A fence was added later. Those who light fragrance on Thursdays at the place will be blessed much. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba and Rohilla!

When Baba came to Shirdi and was staying in the dilapidated mosque, one "Rohilla" came over there and started staying with Baba. He was well built, and was wearing a kafni like Baba. Day and night he used to recite the 'kalma'(verses from Quran). His voice was very hoarse and his way of recitation disturbed the peace loving people of Shirdi. They were working in the fields all day long and when they were returning to their huts, they were facing the hoarse sound of Rohilla and hence they could not rest peacefully. Hence, they requested Baba to stop the hoarse cries of the Rohilla. Baba got angry and chided the villagers saying, " you people don't bother about the Rohilla, and attend to your works. This Rohilla is always haunted by a woman "Sandipee"(in fact there were no woman, it was the bad traits, Baba refered) Baba told the villagers not to worry and in course of time, the cries of the Rohilla will subside. Here Baba has taught us a good lesson. We should not bother about others. we should attend to our own works. Saisaran, Sairam.

Hemadpant gets the blessings of Baba for writing Satcharita!

When Annasaheb Dabolkar(Hemadpant), the author of Saisatcharita, was contemplating upon writing the holy episodes of Saibaba, first he was reluctant feeling that he is not aware of the mind of his own friend or his own mind. How he can attempt to write the life of a Gnani or Avatar of God! One who attempt to write the life of a saint, should be a saint himself. But Hemadpant lamented that he is of ordinary intelligence. A man can measure the deapth of an ocean. He can cover the sky with cloth decorations. But how he can write with mere words, the life of a saint? He will become a laughing stock! Hence he was reluctant to ask the permission of Baba. Hence he requested Shama(Madhava Rao) to plead on behalf of him. On one occasion, Shama told Baba, "This man wants to write your story, Do not say that you are an ordinary Fakir, Your grace alone can achieve this. Baba melted at those words and placed His beneficial palm on the head of Hemadpant and said, "Let him keep notes and records of events, i will myself let it happen. Let him become absolutely egoless. Then i will myself enter Him and write my story. Thus Hemadpant got courage and started keeping notes.Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba broke the sleeping plank to pieces due to curious crowd!

Baba used to sleep on a plank suspended from the rafters of the Mosque. The rafters were in crumbling stage. In addition, the plank was suspended by tying on the four corners with torn cloth pieces. It was really a wonder, when the cloth pieces can not even bear the weight of the plank, it was bearing the weight of Baba sleeping on the plank. In addition, it was suspended at an height. No body had any clue how Baba climbed the plank from the ground. Many people were eagerly watching to see how Baba climbed, but none could succeed. It was mysterious, Baba was seen sleeping on this plank at a height. In addition, four lamps used to burn throughout the night on the four corners of the plank. When there was huge crowd to watch the mystery of Baba lying on the small plank, Baba got angry and he has broken the planks to pieces! Nana Saheb Dangle told Baba, he will arrange a new plank for Baba to sleep. But Baba told him, He doesn't want to sleep on the plank, leaving Mahlsapathy. Then Dangle told Baba, he will arrange a separate plank for Mahlsapathy. Baba declined saying, No! Mahlsapathy is unable to sleep in the floor properly. How can he sleep on the plank. One who is able to sleep with eyes open can alone sleep over the plank. Saisaran, Sairam.

Sapatnekar and Baba.

There was one advocate 'Sapatnekar' who lost his only son due to a throat disease. When Sapatnekar was studying in Law Collage, all his class mates were comparing notes for the preparation of final examination. There was one more student called 'Chevade". All his friends observed that he has not prepared well and he is likely to fail in the final examination. But Chevade asserted, that he has the blessings of Saibaba, who has assured him that he will clear the examination. Sapatnekar was astonished at the statement of Chevade. He asked him who is the saint, he is venerating so high? Chevade has told Sapatnekar that there is a holy saint in Shirdi, living in a mosque. There may be so many saints but none can be compared to him. Whatever he tells comes true. Both of them passed out of the Collage and Sapatnekar was pursuing his legal profession. After many years, he lost his only son. He was anguished much. He could not get peace of mind. He went on pilgrimage and visited several holy places but he could not gain peace of mind. He remembered the words of his old friend "Chevade' and reached Shirdi. But he could not get permission to come near Baba. He consulted one devotee Bala simpi who asked Sapatnekar to purchase photos of Baba. When one photo was handed over to Baba, he jokingly replied that the photo is Sapatnekar's lover photo. But he could not get near dharsan. He was asked to go away. With heavy heart he prayed that he should be admitted when he comes there next time. After a year or so, Sapatnekar's wife dreamt that she was proceeding to a well with an empty pot. One fakir who was following her asked her, "Why this anxiety. I will fill up your pot. She got freightened by the conversation and fled the place. She woke up from the dream and told her husband that this is the best time to visit Shirdi.

Accordingly, both went to Shirdi and found that Baba was away. When she was waiting, Baba was nearing her. She found that the fakir in the dream resembled Baba. Baba told a sheperdess that his ankle and waist was paining for a long time and now he feels free from the pain. Sapatnekar's wife found that the reference was about her own condition and to her astonishment she was relieved off from pain.

Again Sapatnekar went to the Mosque and went near Baba. Baba told him to go away. This time Sapatnekar was feeling sad and thought that his past actions are the reasons for Baba's displeasure. Hence he prayed to be forgiven and went near Baba and placed his head on Baba's feet. Baba mysteriously told the entire story of Sapatnekar to a devotee and about the loss of his son. Sapatnekar was astonished. Baba told him that the same son will be brought to his wife's womb and he blessed him thus. Accordingly within a year Sapatnekar got a son by Baba's blessings.Saisaran,Sairam.

Padare brothers from Mumbai and Baba.

In mumbai, there were three brothers from "Padare family". They were deeply religious people and pious. Once Baba told the devotees in the mosque, to day many people from my Darbar will come. Shortly afterwards, Padare brothers came to the Mosque and they were Satwic in nature. Baba told the gathering that these are the people, i mention. As the brothers went back to their native, they mentioned the happenings in the mosque and all the relatives were impressed about the glory of Baba. Whenever chance permits, the brothers came to Shirdi and spend their time in the Presence of Baba. Once Baba gave the Chilm he was smoking to Padare. That was a most fortunate time for Padare. He was suffering from Asthma for the past several years. After smoking the Chilm, he was cured of the Asthma attack. Saisaran, Sairam.

Nana saheb was corrected by Baba.

Once Nanasaheb Chandorkar came to Shirdi alongwith one of his close relative, Biniwala. As soon as they reached mosque, Baba got angry with Nana. Unable to understand the reasons for Baba's anger, Nana requested Baba, the reasons for the sudden anger. Baba asked him how he came to Shirdi? Nana understood the question and requested Baba to forgive him. Whenever Nana Saheb visits Shirdi, he used to visit Datta temple on the banks of Godavari. This time, to avoid delay, he came along with his relative directly to Shirdi without visiting the Datta temple. Nana said, while bathing in the Godavari, a big thorn pierced him. Baba said, it is a small punishment and henceforth he should be more careful. Thus Baba taught him a lesson! Saisaran, Sairam.

Saibaba's peculiar ways of handling people.

Sitting in a remote corner of the Masjid, Saibaba was aware of the happenings around the world. He know when the trains will come to Kopergaon, though Baba has not seen a train nor traveled in it. He is Sarvantaryami(One who is the indweller of all beings). Hence He is aware of the thoughts rising in the mind of devotees instantaneously. He encouraged good and noble thoughts and advised the devotees to avoid bad thoughts. None could gauge him however much intelligent they are. People of authority like the Commissioner, Collector and other high ranking officials were unable to contradict Baba on any issues. Once there was an enquiry. Certain thief who was caught by the Police took the name of Saibaba. Police were suspicious and started investigation. They came to the Mosque and enquired Baba. The conversation was some what like this: Police Officer: What is your Name, Baba: All names are mine. Police: What is your Age; Baba: I am ageless, more than 50000 yrs. Police: Do you know the thief: Yes, I know each and every body. Likewise the conversation went on. Unable to get any clue, the Police party returned exhausted.Saisaran, Sairam.

Sai's initial years recalled here.

Shirdi Avatar is not an isolated one. In fact, Sai Avatar are Three. Lord Shiva manifested as Shirdi Sai as per the boon granted to Devagiri amma. Though she left the baby under the care of mother nature after delivery to follow her Dharma of following her husband, Baba came under the care of one Muslim gentleman who had no issues. He handed over the baby to his Bivi who brought Sai with great affection and care. But the boy Sai was mischivous in his own way. He went to the Hindu temple and start saying Ram is Allah! People got offended by his audacity. He went to the mosque and said, Shiva is Allah!. Both the communities got offended by such pranks of Sai and they started complaining about the boy to the mother who was helpless. She already lost her husbend who predeceased her. Now she was contemplating on how to set right the behaviour of the boy. She heard about one "Venkusa", a preceptor who tend young boys and teach them spirituality. Hence she brought young Sai under the care of Shri Venkusa, who readily accepted the boy under his benign care. It is another episode how he came to Shirdi and finally settled there in the old dilapidated mosque! Saisaran, Sairam.

How Baba cured Beemaji Patel?

Many people approached Saibaba in Shirdi when He was in physical presence. Most of them went there to seek remedy for the problems that assail them in the world and family. Many sought wealth, some went for progeny, many more went for seeking cure of their diseases both minor and major nature. Baba entertained most of them and allowed them to pour their sufferings in front of Him. He remedied many of their problems. To some, he was not inclined to interfere in their karma. Still, when the devotees persisted and cried for the help, his heart melted and He assured them His protection saying; "Stay, cast off anxiety, the benevolent mother Masudi Mai removes the suffering of those who climb their steps. Those who climb the steps of the Mosque will never be perturbed any more. To Bheem bai, who was suffering from TB and vomiting blood every now and then, Baba was keeping silent initially but when Beemaji cried, He said, "Cast of your anxiety, go and stay in a devotee's place. Beemaji went as per the instruction of Baba. The place lacked cleanliness and hygeine. However he dreamt two horrible dreams. In one dream, some body was rolling a big stone over his chest. In the next dream, he suffered beatings from the teacher for not learning the lessons. These two dreams removed his past karma and he was thus cured by Baba's grace. He went back to his native and started performing "Sai Sathya vrata' instead of Satyanarayana Vrata as prevelant in Maharashtra. Saisaran, Sairam.

His tombs looks after the welfare of the devotees.

Though His holy form has been entombed in Butiwada, He has assured the devotees, "My tomb shall speak to the needs of my devotees. My skeleton will discuss the devotee's welfare. "I am ever active, even after leaving this earthly body. Yes, many past devotees who had the good fortune of remaining in the Divine Presence when He was physically present in the Masjid, do enjoy His benign protection from all troubles and calamities. The prayers of devotees are fulfilled in a miraculous manner. Devotees throng in thousands every day to see Baba's Dharsan and to touch the Samadhi. Offerings are made in the form of garlands, flowers, cloths, sweet meat etc. Everything is offered back to the devotees as Prasad after Divine consecration. People enjoy His Divine grace mysteriously though his physical form has vanished from our midst. Reading the Satcharita in the Dwarakamai has cured many melodies that assail the devotees. Make it a point to visit Shirdi atleast once in your life time. Saisaran, Sairam.

The text Ramavijayam was read before Baba.

Saibaba followed the custom of ordinary people before He embarked on His final journey. He asked one "Vaje" to read "Ramavijayam", a text read at the presence of dying people. Vaje read it thrice and got tired. Baba asked him to take rest and was waiting for the final moments. On the day, He asked his close devotees to go and take their meals. They were unable to leave His Presence, since they were fearing the imminent event. Still, they left with heavy heart and partook their meals silently. While they were eating, news came that Baba breathed His last! Filled with agony, they left the meals and rushed to the place. Baba was lying on Bade baba's shoulder. Those who were present at the scene were dumbstruck. Soon news spread like wildfire. Entire village gathered near the masjid. Many wept uncontrollably. Many were rolling on the ground. People were expressing their sorrow in several ways. Sai Maharaj has clearly spelled out before passing away, "Take me to the Takadhi wada, i will become alright. Catching the significance, His mortal remains were entombed in Buti Mandir(Wada) in the place resereved for the deity"Muralidhar". In fact, Baba became Muralidhar for the devotees. Saisaran, Sairam.

Baba's predictions about His passing away.

In Saisatcharita, we come across at least three occasions on which he predicts about His departure from this world. It was during Dusserah, Vijayadasami day, he roared and tore all his cloths including the langot and thrown them in the sacred fire. The fire after consuming the cloths Baba wore, emitting bright flame. Immediately his lepor devotee Bagoji tried to wind a new groyn cloth and he succeeded. The devotees asked Baba the reason for His anger. Baba said, this is my "Sillangan" meaning crossing the border. Exactly after two years, Baba cast aside His Physical Frame. Thirty two years before his Mahasamadhi, Baba was deeply affected by Asthma complaint. He wanted to raise his spirit above to get relief. He asked his close devotee, Mahlsapathi to guard his body for three days. If he returns, every thing will be well, otherwise, he instructed that His body may be interred under a tree and two flags may be planted on it. Shri Mahlsapathi by his single hearted devotion, kept the body on his bosam without stirring. The villagers told Mahlsapathy to hand over the body for disposal. But Mahlsapathy kept the body for 72 hours and fortunately Baba returned to the Physical Frame. In a third prediction, he told one of his devotee Ramachandra Dada that Tatya will pass away during Vijayadasami two years later. Hence Ramachandra Dada kept this secret in his mind and he was greately perturbed about the health of Tatya Kote Patil. As predicted by Baba, Tatya fell ill two years later and he was unable to stir from his bed. Tatya had faith in Baba and Baba had faith in Hari. Tatya's pulse started beating very slowly and it seemed that his end is imminent. But suddenly, Baba passed away on Vijayadasami and Tatya became well. People thought that Baba has taken the illness of Tatya and passed away to save him. Only God alone know the Truth. Saisaran, Sairam.
